One Screening Made a Difference.
This past April, a neighbor stopped by Perry Outreach Center to lend a hand. But he wasn’t feeling well.
One of our nursing students checked his blood sugar. His reading was over 300, and the students strongly urged him to seek medical attention that day.
He went to the hospital. Doctors discovered a serious medical problem and admitted him for care.
Someone was there to notice. Someone encouraged him to get help.
What if no one had been there to check?
WHY THIS MATTERS
Good Health Shouldn’t Depend on the Calendar.
For years, Perry has offered health screenings with the help of nursing students. But when the school calendar changes, those screenings can stop. Our neighbors still need help.
Care Can Be Hard to Reach
Many of our neighbors have limited access to nearby medical services.
Screenings Have Gaps
Student nurses are available during parts of the year, but not every week.
Follow-Up Matters
Neighbors need someone who can explain their numbers and check in again.
Health concerns don’t take a summer break. Neither should our support.
THE NEXT STEP FOR PERRY
The Office Is Funded. Now We Need the Nurse.
Thanks to a generous grant, we have the funding to equip Perry’s new Health Office.
Now we’re raising money to support a neighborhood nurse who can be there every Tuesday—checking blood pressure and blood sugar, helping neighbors understand their numbers, and connecting them with care when they need it.
